Zain Saudi Arabia launches hi-speed 4G wireless technology

Kingdom becomes the first country in the Middle East to offer 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) technology.
Customers can now efficiently download or send large amounts of data at unparalleled speeds of up to 150 Mbps.

Zain Saudi Arabia (Zain KSA) has become the first mobile network operator in the Middle East (and one of the first in the world) to commercially launch 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network. Zain customers in three major Saudi cities - Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam can now benefit from the service through a special package offering, with the company planning to extend the 4G offering in stages in the coming months that will eventually cover the Kingdom’s major cities by the end of 2012.

The 4G LTE network will provide customers the ability to download and send data at high speeds reaching up to 150 Mbps, allowing them to enjoy a multitude of internet services.
Commenting on this momentous occasion, Ahmed Al-Faifi, Chief Operating Officer of Zain KSA said that, “the launch is a ‘quantum leap’ in mobile telecommunications and Internet services and that Zain is proud to be at the forefront of this revolution. With the surging use of smart devices among the Saudi population, the 4G network will further enhance the customer experience immensely.”
Al-Faifi added that Zain KSA had always sought to create its own network and provide its customers with the very latest technologies since its launch in the Kingdom in August 2008. He explained that this would not have been possible with the efforts of all the Zain staff. They could be proud of being part of a company that is truly at the cutting edge of mobile technology.
“This achievement is the culmination of the efforts made by the company in delivering 4G to the Kingdom, a trial process that began in February 2010 with three global technology partners: Motorola, Ericsson and Huawei in what was recognized and acclaimed as one of the world’s largest trials of 4G LTE. Today, the commercial offering is launched in partnership with Huawei,” he said.
Al-Faifi also said that the delivery of a 4G network will give Zain many more options and a keener competitive edge in terms of products and services and deliver real value-added to a discerning customer base.
4G LTE technology is a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data. It has the capacity to efficiently transfer large amounts of data at an unparalleled speed. It can also accommodate more applications such as video conferencing, high definition content, video blogs, interactive games and video downloads on social networking sites.
